We recently moved into our spacious new offices at the Old Biscuit Mill in Cape Town and we absolutely love it here. “It was time for us to spread our wings and find somewhere bigger and better”, says Sonet. “We love the Biscuit Mill – it has a great history of reclaiming abandoned spaces and giving them a new lease on life, of supporting design and the crafts and nurturing up-and-coming talent. These are all ideals and beliefs shared by Upstart Office.”
What is really exciting is that we can now open our doors to the public on Saturdays, giving a broader audience the chance to see samples of our work – for example our unique design ‘The Shack’ (designed by Frank) – and to purchase cool accessories like this ‘Little man’ lamp by David Krynauw (pictured below). In future, we will be sharing more of our own designs and our favourite finds so keep popping back to see what’s new and interesting.
“We love bringing clients here – not only to show them samples like sofas and chairs but having more space (290m2 of it) enables us to quickly put elements together to give them some ideas on layouts, the way furniture can be arranged and so on”, Sonet explains.
The space has been arranged in a very airy, open plan way with meeting spaces, a coffee bar area and communal desks for quick brainstorming sessions. Favourite spots in the Mill include Burrata for lunch, Espresso lab for great coffee and “the G&T bicycle” at the Saturday Neighbourgoods Market.
Come say ‘hi’ at Unit 208 on the First Floor of the Old Biscuit Mill (upstairs from the fountain in the courtyard). We are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm and every Saturday (not on public holidays) from 10am to 1pm.
