Stylish, contemporary, earthy and organic – check out the new look we recently created for fruit export company, Fresh Gold. We also helped them to move from their old building in Montague Gardens to an exciting new space in the Durbanville wine growing area, with lovely views of the surrounding vineyards.
The new premises showed a lot of promise but we made it more airy by taking most of the internal walls down, repainting interiors, revamping the floor finishes and adding cool new light fittings. An open plan layout not only saved on floor space but also allows staff to practise the company’s open discussion policy. Traders, for example, want eye contact when they’re on the phone and want to be able to listen to one another. Staff now share bench type workstations (6 to a bench) – each with their own storage and a desk-based screen to give them some ‘me space’. This new way of working is suiting them very well.
Previously, the company’s offices looked quite dated, with a lot of second-hand furniture from the 1960-70s. In their new space, staff can relax in their new chill room with a kitchen area for lunch away from their desks. We also sourced new boardroom furniture and added a bar area for client entertainment. Finally, because first impressions last, we refreshed the reception area with a newly designed desk and bulkhead. The look we went for is almost Swedish in its simplicity: lots of white, light oak timber and hints of green to complement the greenery seen outside.
We received the final brief from the client in late November 2012, very quickly got working on the space and managed to move them in by mid-December. Less than 3 weeks from start to finish – hey, we Up starters love a bit of a challenge! During 2013, we will continue to add central storage, wallpapers, reception seating and company logos in prominent places.
